Most cervical cancers are caused by human papillomavirus or HPV, and screening for HPV can help identify women who may be at risk of developing cervical cancer. The US Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for cervical cancer with cervical cytology every three years for women ages 21 to 29. “Most cervical cancers are found in people who have never had a cervical cancer screening test or who have not had one recently. Screening for cervical cancer remains important because early cases often may not have signs or symptoms. Cervical cancer is treated in many ways, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

CNN —Flowers and brunch are lovely for Mother’s Day, but there’s an invaluable gift almost every mom would enjoy: a healthier body image. But almost all postpartum moms, celebrity or not, face an unspoken mandate to “bounce back” to their pre-baby body. If moms feel preoccupied with their appearance, exercise or what they eat (even “healthy eating”), it could be a sign of significant maternal mental health problems. “The body isn’t what it was before. Awareness of these external diet culture directives can help moms start to push back against unrealistic and harmful ideals.

Eli Lilly said it plans to ask U.S. regulators to expand Zepbound's label to include obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA, later this year. Shares of Eli Lilly have ridden the GLP-1 craze to new heights over the past few years. The current standard of care for obstructive sleep apnea is positive airway pressure, or PAP, machines, which help keep patients' airways open while they sleep. Analysts projected obstructive sleep apnea revenue of $3 billion. An injection pen of Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s weight loss drug, is displayed in New York City on Dec. 11, 2023.

An injection pen of Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s weight loss drug, is displayed in New York City, U.S., December 11, 2023. Eli Lilly on Wednesday said its highly popular weight loss drug Zepbound showed the potential to treat patients with the most common sleep-related breathing disorder in two late-stage clinical trials. Zepbound was more effective than a placebo at reducing the severity of obstructive sleep apnea, or OSA, in patients with obesity after a year, according to preliminary data from both trials. Eli Lilly previously announced that the FDA granted Zepbound "fast track designation" for patients with moderate-to-severe OSA and obesity. Zepbound has slipped into shortages since receiving approval in the U.S. for weight management in November.

CNN —Zepbound, a popular weight loss drug, also seems to help people with obstructive sleep apnea, drugmaker Eli Lilly said Wednesday. Based on results from trials in people with sleep apnea, the company said it plans to submit the material to the US Food and Drug Administration to potentially expand the use of Zepbound for obstructive sleep apnea. Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder that causes people to briefly stop breathing while they are sleeping, sometimes several times an hour. While people are more at risk for obstructive sleep apnea as they get older, it often develops when people gain weight and have overweight or obesity. Some doctors have been prescribing the weekly injection off label to people with obstructive sleep apnea, and Lilly has been testing the drug for obstructive sleep apnea since June 2022.

WARSAW (Reuters) - Poland's parliament has voted to remove the immunity from prosecution of a lawmaker who used a fire extinguisher to put out Jewish Hanukkah candles in the country's parliament in December, an incident that caused international outrage. The vote opens the way for prosecutors to press charges against Grzegorz Braun from the far-right Confederation party for seven acts committed during 2022 and 2023, including the incident involving the candles. The largest opposition party, the nationalist law and Justice (PiS), also voted in favour of removing Braun's immunity. After extinguishing the candles in the parliament on Dec. 12, Braun took to the podium where he described Hanukkah as "satanic" and said he was restoring "normality". Asked later if he was ashamed of his action, he said: "Those who take part in acts of satanic worship should be ashamed."

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday classified the recall of certain respiratory masks made by ResMed as most serious as their use could cause major injuries or death. ResMed was recalling some models of its continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) masks, AirFit and AirTouch, due to possible magnetic interference with certain medical devices and implants which might disrupt their function or position and cause serious harm or death, the FDA said. The FDA said ResMed was recalling these masks to update the labels and add more warnings and information. The California-based medical device maker started the recall process on Nov. 20 and has recalled over 20 million devices in the United States. The health regulator said there has been six reported injuries and no reports of death due to the devices.

CNN —The Vatican has accepted the resignation of a Polish bishop who stepped down after a sex scandal involving clergy from his diocese in the southern Polish city of Sosnowiec. According to Poland’s state news agency, the parish has been hit by a string of scandals over the past few years involving priests under the administration of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak. The allegations that precipitated the bishop’s resignation are connected to an incident in September, widely reported in Polish media, in which a priest identified as Fr. Tomasza Z allegedly hosted several other priests and a male prostitute at his apartment. Tomasza Z has since been dismissed, according to PAP.

WARSAW, Oct 24 (Reuters) - A Polish bishop, whose diocese was reportedly the scene of a sex party organised by priests at which Polish media say a male prostitute collapsed after taking erectile dysfunction pills, has resigned, the Vatican said on Tuesday. The statement did not give a reason for the resignation of Bishop Grzegorz Kaszak, saying only that the pope had accepted it. According to Polish media reports, a male prostitute collapsed at the party after taking too many erectile dysfunction pills. The priest who hosted the party in his apartment, named as Tomasz Z, was eventually dismissed, according to the state-run news agency PAP.
